Composer, producer and visual artist Sijya to release remix EP Leather & Brass [Retrofitted] on October 23

The Delhi-based electronica artist has opened the original record to a group of femme producers she admires

September 2026 – Following the release of her acclaimed EP Leather & Brass and recent single ‘Turbine’, Indian composer, producer and graphic artist Sijya announces Leather & Brass [Retrofitted], a new remix EP arriving October 23 via One Little Independent Records. The announcement comes alongside its first single, ‘Do I Know [Rachika Nayar Edit]’, that released on September 9.

Leather & Brass [Retrofitted] opens the original record up to a group of femme producers Sijya admires, inviting each to find their own way into its dense, tactile world. Bringing together a cast of artists with distinctive approaches to production, the collection reframes the textures, tensions, and contrasts at the heart of Leather & Brass through a series of new perspectives.

“For the past few years, I’ve been obsessed with listening to femme producers and artists, and this remix comp is an ode to that,” she explains. The first reworking comes from Brooklyn-based composer and producer Rachika Nayar. Known for an approach that transforms guitar through processing, looping and electronic manipulation into expansive, emotionally charged compositions, Nayar finds a fitting counterpart in ‘Do I Know’.

The original itself emerged spontaneously, with a synth part that Sijya came to recognise as resembling a guitar riff, another example of her recurring attraction to the language of electric guitars even when working primarily with electronic tools. “I love Rachika’s work and it’s amazing to have her rework ‘Do I Know’. Her work beautifully indulges the tender side of the song; it’s a perfect companion,” she says.

The remix project extends the ideas of transformation that sit at the heart of Leather & Brass itself.

The original EP was meticulously constructed through a combination of digital synthesis and analogue grit, with distorted synths pushed through guitar pedals and other processing in search of weight, density, and contrast. Working alongside recording engineer Jay Panelia, Sijya used compression, slapback delays, and mono reverbs to strip digital sounds of their sterility and give them something warmer.

That world has continued to expand since the EP’s release. Recent single ‘Turbine’, written during the same creative period, further explored Sijya’s fascination with distorted synths, immersive atmospheres and opposing forces; industrial and intimate, mechanical and human, abrasive and delicate. The song was first performed at Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall during an early Sijya live show, and her first performance outside India.

Sijya embodies the wave of fresh ideas and distinctive musicianship coming out of South Asia. With records that showcase a defining commitment to originality without losing touch with instinct, and live shows that create immersive atmospheres, the New Delhi artist has emerged as one of the most exciting voices in the region’s alternative music space.

The multi-faceted talent lays down textural abstractions of her inner monologue onto musical and visual canvases alike. Dreamy, untamed synth layers and raw rhythms come together with emotion-led vocal lines, creating a unique blend of art pop, downtempo, and ambient music first introduced through her debut EP Young Hate and expanded upon through Leather & Brass.
