15 September is marked as Engineer’s Day commemorating the work of Sir M Visvesvaraya whose contribution to the field of engineering is beyond words.

The Bharat Ratna awardee was born on 15 September, 1861 and is regarded as the father of Indian engineering, along with being an economist and a statesman. His multiple visionary projects especially on harnessing the water resources and building of several dams across the country are the contributions that received huge accolades from the nation as well as from the United Kingdom, giving him the prestigious British Knighthood title.

Today, on this special occasion, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman took to her Twitter handle writing, “Remembering Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvaraya on his birthday celebrated as #EngineersDay. Extraordinary contribution to infrastructure building- during Pre & Post independence India in the Deccan, Mysore, Pune etc. Singular contribution to excellence in engineering. Inspirational.”

 

Meanwhile PM Modi, ahead of Bihar election has inaugurated and laid foundation of seven urban infrastructure related projects in the state out of which four are related to water supply.

 

While inaugurating the new projects, PM Modi gave credit to all the engineers of India for their exceptional work which has helped the country to achieve the milestones.
