United Nations (UN) has declared his birthday as Nelson Mandela International Day, also popularly known as Mandela Day. His birthday is commemorated around the world to pay tribute to South Africa’s first black President for his values, legacy, and contribution to society.
‘Madiba’, affectionately called by the people, who believed in human rights for all, is considered to be the biggest and most inspirational leader in world history. On Mandela Day, his followers took it to their social media handle to pay respect to the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, General Secretary of Indian National Congress, posted an old photo of her with Nelson Mandela, calling him as ‘Uncle Nelson’, who inspired her to be in politics.
