Ash Barty Withdraws From French Open

The French Open is scheduled to take place from 21 September at Stade Roland Garros in Paris France and ahead of the Grand Slam, World number one in Singles Ashleigh Barty has announced her withdrawal from the Tennis tournament.

The 24-year-old Australian last year won her first Grand Slam title in French Open, however this year the ongoing pandemic has made many athletes withdraw from the game due to health concerns.

Ashleigh announced her decision on her official social media handle where she also wrote, “There are two reasons for my decision. The first is the health risks that still exist with Covid. The second is my preparation, which has not been ideal without my coach being able to train with me due to the state border closures in Australia.”

In her long note, the athlete also sent her greetings to all the players who will be participating in the French Open and the Federation for conducting a successful tournament along with thanking her supporters by writing, “It has been a challenging year for everyone and although I am disappointed on a tennis front, the health and well-being of my family and my team will always be my priority. Thank you to my fans for your continued support, I can’t wait to play for you again.”
