After a wait of ten years, Indian ace table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal finally won the ITTF Oman Open table tennis event on Sunday.

The 37-year-old TOPS athlete has last clinched the winner trophy in the Egypt Open event in the year 2010, post which he made an appearance in the semi-finals of Morocco Open in 2011 and India Open in 2017.

Though his final match at Muscat against Marcos Freitas started on a rough note, the player bounced back in the final two games, beating the attacks of Portuguese players in a strategic way.

Post his victory, the athlete also received a congratulatory tweet from the Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, who wrote, “Congratulations @sharathkamal1

Indian Table Tennis level is attaining world class standard due the talented and hardworking Indian team we have presently! Keep it up…”.
