Mumbai | 21–25 January
National, January 20 2026: AstaGuru is pleased to present Across The Century, an exclusive exhibition celebrating the extraordinary artistic journey of Krishen Khanna, one of India’s most iconic modern masters. On view in Mumbai from 21 to 25 January, the exhibition brings together a curated selection of works from Khanna’s most celebrated series, including his enduring and much-loved Bandwallahs.
The exhibition will present a carefully curated selection of works by Krishen Khanna, offering viewers an intimate insight into his enduring engagement with the human condition. Among the highlights is Lot no. 15, Untitled (The Journey), which reflects the human experience of labour and endurance. The warm, earthy tones highlight the physical movement and emotional passage while Khanna’s layered mixed-media surface enhances the sense of the passing and lived time.
From his Emmaus series, Lot no. 17, Emmaus, an oil on canvas, draws on the biblical moment of revelation, capturing a quiet encounter charged with spiritual recognition. The figures, clothed in simple white garments and arranged around a table, are rendered with restrained gestures that are nonetheless rich in meaning.
Another vibrant highlight from his Bandwallah series is Lot no. 8, The Wedding Procession (Pentaptych), a mixed-media work that unfolds as a dynamic celebration of movement and sound. This work showcases a wedding procession of figures caught in movement and sound. The bold reds, yellows, and blues create a visual cadence, while overlapping bodies, instruments, and gestures suggest music, festivity, and collective participation.
Spanning over six decades of artistic practice, Across The Century offers a rare and intimate insight into the work of Krishen Khanna, an artist deeply rooted in the social fabric of his time, capturing moments of transition, memory, and quiet human observation. More than an exhibition, it is a celebration of a life devoted to art, one that continues to resonate, provoke thought, and inspire new generations.
Exhibition Dates: 21–25 January
Location: ICIA Gallery, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai.
