The founder and first CEO of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Faqir Chand Kohli is no more. Better known as the Father of the Indian IT industry, he passed away at the age of 96. Kohli’s biggest contribution to the country is to help in increasing literacy by working on a literacy program where they teach adults who have never been educated to read.

Expressing grief over Kohli’s death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he’ll be remembered for his pioneering contributions to the world of information technology.

Mourning Faqir Chand Kohli’s demise, TCS shared a statement that since he joined the company in 1969, Kohli pivoted into management consultancy and software development, Two and half decades with Tata Group, he helped them navigate and invest in people while staying relevant to customers. Till his last days, Kohli promoted technology to solve India’s social problems.
