India’s track and field legend, PT Usha also called as the ‘Queen of track and field’, has been nominated in the Veteran Pin category by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), for her outstanding contribution to the sport.

On hearing this news, she tweeted, “IAAF Veteran Pin for the long and meritorious service to the cause of World Athletics! Thank you IAAF for this incredible honour”.

IAAF CEO Jon Ridgeon extended an invitation to the 55-year-old to attend the opening of the 52 IAAF Congress award ceremony in Qatar, to be held on 24 September.

Usha’s most memorable performance was in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, where she became the first Indian to reach the finals of the 400m hurdles, but lost the bronze by one-hundredth of a second. She won five gold medals in 100m, 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay, besides a bronze in the 1985 Asian Games in Jakarta.

Congratulations!
