A community-led Diwali initiative celebrating the recipes, regional traditions and stories that make the festival special across South Indian homes

Diwali tables rarely look the same from one home to another. There are recipes that only appear once a year, dishes passed down through generations, and family favourites that instantly bring you back to a particular kitchen, a particular person or a particular place.

This Diwali, Uppu is bringing some of those stories to its own table.

Through A Taste of Home, Uppu is inviting its community to share a family recipe that reminds them of Diwali, along with where it comes from and the story behind it. From these submissions, Uppu will select a few recipes to recreate in its own kitchen, bringing dishes from different South Indian homes and regions to life at Uppu during the festive season.

FROM FAMILY KITCHENS TO THE UPPU KITCHEN

The idea begins with a simple question: What does Diwali taste like at your home?

It could be an age-old family recipe from the Chettinad kitchens of Tamil Nadu, a crowd-favourite grandmother’s recipe from Karnataka, a festive special from Andhra, or a dish that has travelled across cities and generations with a family.

Over the weeks leading up to Diwali, Uppu will bring these recipes and the stories behind them to life across its social channels. A selection will then make their way into the Uppu kitchen, where the chefs will recreate, taste, and discuss them before choosing the recipes that will feature on the Diwali menu

The selected recipes will eventually be served at Uppu across its Bandra and Karjat locations during Diwali, giving the families behind them the opportunity to experience their own recipes as part of the Uppu table.

For Uppu, A Taste of Home is a celebration of the many ways Diwali comes to the table across South India, told through the people and recipes that make it personal.

This Diwali, some of those recipes will travel from family kitchens to the Uppu table.

A Taste of Home is Uppu’s Diwali initiative, running throughout November at Uppu Bandra and Uppu Karjat.
