Description: At 47-A, Khotachi Wadi, Sourav Das presents Parchinkari, the Indian expression of Pietra Dura, is an art of precision, translated into a tactile textile . Rooted in years of textile research, documentation and close engagement with master weavers, Das brings the discipline of inlay into a new textile expression.
In Sourav Das’s world, this language of inlay finds a new expression through textile. Threads become fragments, zari becomes light, motifs become form, and the woven surface becomes a canvas for memory. The softness of cloth carries the same discipline and devotion once expressed through architecture. Parchinkari is a dialogue & expertise of the Minakari craft between permanence and movement, heritage and reinterpretation. Through Banarasi, Chanderi, Zari Tissue and classical Indian weaves, Sourav revisits the richness of traditions shaped by generations of hands, stories and cultural memory. These textiles are more than garments. They are fragments of places, rituals, craftsmanship and time—objects that carry nostalgia, expertise and imperfection of a human hand, prolonged man-hours of intense skill and patience, generational ‘karigariwhile continuing to live in the present. At its heart, Parchinkari celebrates the discipline of the archive and the poetry of the hand, revealing Indian textiles as objects of art, timeless apparels, nostalgia and enduring beauty.

About Sourav Das
From his years at NIFT-Delhi, 2014 to launching his label in 2021, Sourav has held on to that instinct, positioning himself as both purist and revivalist in an industry that often rewards speed over substance. He works closely with master weavers across clusters tied to Benarasi, and the clusters of Madhya Pradesh textiles, reinterpreting them with a sensitivity that feels both scholarly and instinctive.“I feel my platform gives me the freedom to explore the opulent, rich, bygone India.
In Chanderi, Sourav has revived museum textiles and translated Paithani motifs onto the fabric whereas with Benarasi he moved away from linearity, bringing back older geometric chaarkhana designs.
From Mau saris with real gold zari to saafa drapes (drawing from the traditional Rajasthani turbans), Souravs practice constantly reinterprets history. In fact, his opulent zari tissue saris have an unmatched tactility to them while the unique shade of red he uses (inspired by the nayikas of Satyajit Ray) has become his signature colour. That foundation remains central to his work, but his creative ambitions have expanded over time. While craftsmanship continues to anchor his practice, he now finds himself increasingly drawn to richer and more layered forms of storytelling.“I always believed in extreme minimalism or extreme maximalism, but nowhere in between.
