Fashionista Sonam Kapoor, who since her debut in 2007 has changed the Bollywood red-carpet scene with her inimitable sense of style and bold fashion choice, actually opted a rather conventional traditional look for her wedding with Anand Ahuja at Bandra, Mumbai.
At a time when celebs are opting their bridal look with minimal jewellery and floral lehengas, Sonam took a leap of faith and went for a deep red color lehenga designed by Anuradha Vakil with heavy zardosi work. Her dupatta, as well as lehenga, featured beautiful lotus patterns with heavy golden borders and delicate patti work on the borders. It is as traditional as any bride could get.
Sonam has paired her D-day look with stunning vintage style jewellery, a choker layered with a guttapusalu necklace and multi-stranded matha patti completed her look. Kapoor’s unconventional yet very conventional choice for a wedding attire will undoubtedly remembered for years to come.
The groom, Anand too complimented his wife by sporting a traditional royal look, with a beige sherwani, coupled with gem neck-piece and a wedding turban.
While the trend among celebrity brides have been more practical and trendy pieces for their mehendi and sangeet avatars, Sonam surprised us all with her elegant, heavy set Anuradha Vakil sharara suit and then a stunning Abu Jaani-Sandeep Khosla ghagra.
For her mehendi day, Sonam kept it sombre yet elegant, the dupatta had broad hemlines with golden beaded embellishments, zardosi and intricate gotta patti work. The wide legged pants too had similar golden embellishments and detailed brocade work towards the ends.
Meanwhile, Ahuja matched his wife look with pink bandhgala suit and cream pants.
For the sangeet, Veere Di Wedding star stepped out for her mehendi and sangeet ceremony in a signature ivory and gold Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla ensemble, and it paired with a heavily embroidered blouse.
The exquisite lehenga featured multiple techniques, including zardozi, zari, sequin, beadwork and Swarovski embroidery, which took nearly 18 months to complete. Sonam kept her look purely traditional with heavy kundan choker and paired it with huge jhumkas and a maang tika.
The groom too looked dapper in a white bandhgala which he accessorised with a statement brooch.
If there could have been anyone capable of reinventing the bridal fashion scene, it is Sonam. But by going uber traditional, she just proved that expect the unexpected.
