Biased news on several occasions have led to much chaos which also become a bane of social media. And there are times when rather than the propagators, it’s the social media platforms held responsible for the mayhem, suffering the rage and accusation of netizens.

The micro-blogging site Twitter which has provided an unmatched way to connect with, and directly speak to public officials and representatives, is bringing a new update to its website.

According to the new announcement of the company, it will label the accounts of key government officials, including foreign ministers, institutional entities, ambassadors, official spokespeople, and key diplomatic leaders as well as the accounts belonging to state-affiliated media entities, their editors-in-chief, and senior staff.

Labels will only be applied to accounts from the countries represented in the five permanent members of the UN Security Council: China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States and those accounts will be notified by the company. Following the same step, Twitter will also take a deep dive into the state-owned media agencies and label them so that citizens can make a decision on their own in following the particular news.

The labelling feature of Twitter soon will be expanded across the world with more features to curb the politicizing of any agenda.
