‘Work-life balance’ has been part of the workplace chatter for years now. However, today, if we deeply analyze the subject, we’re going to find that, even if we maintain the scales between work and our personal lives, we’re still part of a juggling act, constantly switching between tasks, which becomes stressful eventually.

The question now remains of how we address this challenge. Eliminating daily tasks or relationship commitments is not an option. But instead, we must shift the focus on improving our overall physical and mental wellness to meet these challenges and transform ‘work-life balance’ into ‘work-life joy’- aiming not just to reduce stress in performing our roles, but also to derive joy from it.

Here’s what we can do to kick-start our fitness journey within our stuffed schedules:

Walking meetings

Why are meetings or one-to-one general reviews that do not require much computer data, or any kind of equipment, restricted to the office rooms? Take a stroll outside, and have a conversation on the go – while keeping our physical health intact, this practice will also boost creative ideas which will be a win-win.

Stretching breaks

We can’t leave work in the middle of the day and head to the gym. But once in a few hours, we need to remind our body that we aren’t neglecting it. Set up hourly reminders to take a break, get up and stretch out.

Morning Rituals

What can be better than building a morning ritual? Go for a small walk, or maybe a few minutes of meditating. These things go a long way in determining our emotions for the day. Emotions which affect not just us, but also those around us.

Convertible desks

Setting up a convertible standing desk at our workplace allows movement of our body without hampering the productivity of our work.
In fact, the only way productivity can go with these practices is ‘up’.

Deskercise

Simple exercises like seated leg raises and desk push-ups which we can do without leaving our desks project benefits as far as reducing muscle stiffness, improving blood circulation and boosting our energy levels.

It’s about time we break free from the traditional view of ‘work-life balance’ and shift to a new perspective of ‘work-life joy’ whereby prioritizing physical fitness and mental wellness every day.
