India, August 2026:

Some destinations are discovered through itineraries. Others begin with a scene.

For Indian audiences, Rockstar offered an early introduction to Czechia. Ranbir Kapoor walking through Prague, Charles Bridge in the background and the city becoming inseparable from the film’s music and mood. Years later, travellers continue to seek out these familiar locations, turning a cinematic memory into a real journey.

Films have a way of making unfamiliar places feel oddly personal. A bridge becomes memorable because a favourite song was filmed there, a street enters the imagination through a scene, an entire city begins to feel familiar before the flight is even booked. This is what gives screen tourism its pull. Travellers are not only visiting a location but they are meeting a place cinema introduced to them years earlier!

Czechia has played a memorable role in several Indian productions. Imtiaz Ali filmed Rockstar across Charles Bridge, Kampa, Malá Strana and the State Opera, while also venturing beyond Prague to castles including Sychrov, Loučeň and Karlštejn.

He later returned with Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma for Jab Harry Met Sejal, capturing Prague Castle’s Palace Gardens, Nerudova Street, Kampa and the Old Town.

In Bang Bang!, the city changed pace. Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif brought action to the Vltava riverfront, Mánes Bridge, the National Museum and the historic streets of Prague.

The country’s international screen credits are just as recognisable. Casino Royale, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Bourne Identity, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Extraction 2 have all filmed in Czechia.

Together, these productions reveal the sheer range Czechia offers on screen. Its architecture and landscapes have supported romance, fantasy, espionage and large-scale action, giving filmmakers the freedom to build remarkably different visual worlds within one destination.

Prague can offer Gothic towers, Baroque palaces, cobbled lanes, riverside views and modernist architecture within remarkably manageable distances. Beyond the capital, the possibilities widen: Cesky Krumlov for a preserved medieval setting, Karlovy Vary for old-world spa grandeur, South Moravia for vineyards and chateaux, Kutna Hora for Gothic drama and the Tisá Rocks for a landscape shaped by towering sandstone walls and narrow natural passages.

These are not simply picturesque places. Each carries a distinct visual identity. A period film, contemporary romance, action sequence, fantasy production or music video could find its setting without requiring Czechia to repeat the same postcard version of itself.

What appears effortless on screen is supported by considerable expertise behind the camera. Czechia brings together more than a century of filmmaking experience, skilled local crews, established studios and accomplished production and post-production services. The country also offers qualifying Czech and international projects a rebate between 25–35% on eligible production expenditure.

A traveller may arrive at Charles Bridge with Rockstar in mind, but Czechia does not remain confined to that familiar frame. Beyond it are castles, forests, vineyards, spa towns and sandstone landscapes, each carrying the possibility of another story.

The screen may inspire the journey, but it is everything beyond the frame that makes Czechia worth discovering.
