In the heart of Santacruz, Journal has spent the past year offering Mumbaikars a comforting escape from the city’s endless hustle. Designed as a haven for connection and mindfulness, the café celebrates the simple joys of great food, thoughtfully brewed coffee, and moments of quiet reflection.

Inspired by the ritual of journaling, founders Ateet Singh and Chef Ayush Khandelwal envisioned Journal as a community space where people can pause, unwind, and find solace in everyday moments. As it marks its first anniversary, the café stays rooted in its mission to foster meaningful connections and create spaces that feel like home.

“Our vision for Journal is to grow as a trusted, go-to brand while staying true to our roots—offering comforting food, great coffee, and a space for people to come together” the founders shared.

The café’s inviting greenery-lined entrance and warm, light-filled interiors exude calm. The mosaic floors and textured stone walls reflect the city’s rugged charm. The cozy nooks adorned with books and artwork add to the welcoming atmosphere inviting both lively conversations or quiet reflective moments. In addition to being pet-friendly, the outdoor space offers versatility, making it perfect for everything from solo visits to group gatherings.

To celebrate its anniversary, the café introduces a special menu curated by Chef Ayush Khandelwal. True to the café’s ethos of comfort and mindful eating, the menu features fresh and locally sourced ingredients. New additions include wood-fired panuozzos (Basil Lemon Burrata and Grilled Chicken) and Hummus with Peri Peri Chicken, alongside beloved staples like Turkish Eggs and the Grilled Mushroom with Onion Jam Burger. With vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and non-vegetarian options, there’s something for everyone.

Journal’s coffee program continues to stand out with its focus on quality, using beans from Chikmagalur and Ratnagiri. Favorites like Vietnamese hot drip coffee remain a hit. The cafe’s coffee mixology blends indulgence with wellness, featuring bold, fruit-forward brews. Highlights include the Rosemary and Raspberry Pour Over, made with raspberry pulp, coffee, and rosemary-infused water, and the Sunrise Brew, a refreshing mix of pineapple juice, lime juice, jaggery, cold brew, and a pinch of salt. By using fresh fruits and cold-pressed juices, the cafe brings a vibrant, health-conscious twist to coffee culture.

With its focus on comfort, community, and mindful indulgence, Journal has become more than a destination—it’s part of the everyday lives of those seeking moments of inspiration and connection
