Bengaluru-born café makes its Mumbai debut with a menu rooted in traditional recipes, everyday comfort and the simple pleasure of good food
Mumbai, October 2026: After eight years of building a loyal following in Bengaluru, Bengaluru Cafe is set to make its Mumbai debut, opening its first-ever outlet in the city on Gul Mohar Road, Juhu. Founded by friends Vikas Sibramani and Varun , the Bengaluru-born brand brings with it a straightforward philosophy: food that is simple, honest and affordable, served in a way that makes people feel at home.
The idea for Bengaluru Cafe began with Vikas returning to Bengaluru after studying and working in the US, and noticing an opportunity to create a space that captured the city’s everyday food culture in a way that felt familiar and accessible. Although both Vikas and Varun came from engineering and corporate backgrounds, they were drawn to the idea of building something rooted in the food they had grown up with rather than reinventing it. Together, they created a restaurant centred on comforting, time-honoured recipes and the warmth of a home-style meal.
In Juhu, that philosophy extends into the space itself. Designed with a younger Mumbai audience in mind, the new outlet brings together the familiarity of a traditional Bengaluru Cafe with the feel of a contemporary neighbourhood café. Terracotta roofing, brick-style counters, garden-inspired landscaping and plenty of greenery create a warm, relaxed setting, carrying forward visual elements that have become part of the brand’s identity while adapting them to a new city. The intention is not to completely reinvent Bengaluru Cafe’s look, but to evolve it while retaining the familiarity associated with its Bengaluru outlets.
The food, however, remains firmly rooted in Bengaluru Cafe’s original philosophy. The menu is built around traditional South Indian recipes, familiar flavours and everyday staples, with the focus placed on freshness, consistency and getting the fundamentals right. Guests can expect favourites including idli, vada, dosa, rava idli, sambar, Jain sambar, pulav and coffee, with the Juhu menu intentionally kept focused rather than overloaded with choices. Alongside the core menu, the Mumbai outlet will introduce Techa Masala Dosa, a city-specific addition created especially for the new location.
The approach to the food is deliberately traditional. Bengaluru Cafe continues to follow age-old recipes, traditional batter preparation and cooking techniques, while sourcing the best ingredients available and using local ingredients wherever possible. Over the years, the brand has developed detailed SOPs across its products to ensure consistency across outlets without changing the recipes or cooking methods at the heart of the food. The result is food that is deliberately familiar rather than experimental dishes people may have grown up eating, prepared with the care and consistency that make them worth returning to.
“Bringing Bengaluru Cafe to Mumbai is a dream come true. Mumbai is a city that embraces people who come here with a dream, and for us, this is a very special chapter. We are not coming to Mumbai to prove something from the South. We are coming because we genuinely believe that the experience of South Indian food we have grown up with and experienced in Bengaluru is something Mumbai audiences should also get to experience. Right now, our focus is Juhu. We want to build it quietly and organically, through our food, our customers and word of mouth,” says Vikas, Co-founder, Bengaluru Cafe.
For Bengaluru Cafe, the Mumbai launch is therefore less about rapid expansion and more about taking the time to build a relationship with a new audience. Mumbai was chosen for its diversity and its openness to newcomers, and Juhu is the brand’s first step towards establishing itself in the city. The founders intend to let the Mumbai chapter grow at the same pace as the brand’s journey so far slowly, organically and through the food, the people and the experience.
