Ankur Tewari Releases “Mr. Faarigh”, a Raw and Unpolished Ode to Imperfection

The nine-track album looks beyond procrastination as laziness, tracing the uneasy space between perfectionism, analysis paralysis and the fear of beginning.

August 2026: Singer-songwriter, composer and lyricist Ankur Tewari releases his new album, Mr. Faarigh, on 20th August 2026. Introspective, vulnerable and intentionally rough around the edges, the album enters the often misunderstood world of procrastination, not as laziness, but as a complicated relationship between perfectionism and analysis paralysis.

The word “faarigh”, drawn from Urdu and Arabic, can mean free, unoccupied, at leisure or finished with a task.  On Mr. Faarigh, Ankur reclaims the word, asking what might actually be happening beneath apparent inactivity: anxiety, self-doubt, fear of failure and the impossible standards that can make starting feel more frightening than remaining still.

Across nine tracks, Ankur explores the different ways people respond to this over analysis-induced anxiety. Some amplify the noise around them to drown out the voices in their heads. Others retreat further into those voices. Some eventually find comfort in a tribe of similarly unfinished people, each carrying their own hesitation, uncertainty and mess.

In an AI driven world, increasingly designed to do without human touch and unfamiliar while lingering around the seams of time, Ankur Tewari’s new album, ‘Mr. Faarigh’ leans on the state of curiosity, daydreaming, and aimless afternoons.

The album’s first single, “1:15 AM (After Hours)”, introduced that world through the noise outside. Set against Mumbai after dark, the song moves through music, friendship, crowded rooms and the city’s late-night energy. It captures the temporary relief of making everything around you louder so that, for a few hours, you do not have to listen to the voices in your head.

“Kasam Se”, the second single, turns inward. The city gives way to an interior monologue shaped by betrayal, heartbreak, softness, vulnerability and self-doubt. Together, the two songs establish the album’s central tension: the movement between distraction and introspection, and the many things people do to postpone an honest conversation with themselves.

Ahead of the album’s release, Mr. Faarigh also came to life through Call Mr. Faarigh – each song is a feeling, an interactive hotline that invited people to discover songs based on their emotions and leave behind anonymous confessions, memories and unfinished thoughts. 

Speaking about the album, Ankur Tewari shares:

“Cities teach us to keep moving. To fill every gap. To turn waiting into scrolling, wandering into productivity, silence into noise. Somewhere between traffic lights, coffee queues, meetings, and notifications, we develop a sense of panic around empty time.”

The world of Mr. Faarigh is deliberately unpolished. Voice cracks remain audible, ambient room noise lingers and the rough edges are left intact — not as an aesthetic shortcut, but because the album believes honesty often resonates more deeply than perfection. Rather than smoothing every moment into something flawless, it embraces the intimacy of hearing a song exactly as it was felt.

Since emerging independently in 1998, Ankur Tewari’s 25 year journey, has built one of Indian independent music’s defining catalogues across independent releases, live performance, film music, music supervision and cultural curation.

His work includes Gully Boy, Gehraiyaan, The Archies, Kho Gaye Hum Kahaan and Made in Heaven. He also served as the creative architect for two seasons of Coke Studio Bharat, helping create some of the platform’s most memorable collaborations while bringing regional and independent voices to a wider audience. He is currently co-curating the music for Serendipity Arts Festival, held annually in Goa. 

On Mr. Faarigh, that expansive career turns towards something deeply personal. The album does not attempt to solve procrastination or package vulnerability into a neat conclusion. Instead, it stays with the uncertainty, the imperfections and the unfinished thoughts.

Mr. Faarigh is not trying to be flawless. It is trying to be real.
