Featuring the distinctive, dulcet tones of the multi-faceted Carnatic violinist, this Tala Root Records release brings contemporary Indian music into vivid, cross-cultural focus
‘Bangalore Dreams’ out on April 10; listen here
April 2026 – Tala Root Records, the newly launched sub-label of Femme Music dedicated to the jazz and classical genres, has signed renowned Carnatic violinist Jyotsna Srikanth’s jazz project, Jyotsna Carnatic Jazz Trio for a multi-release deal. The first release on the label will be a re-issue of Jyotsna’s 2015 EP, Bangalore Dreams on April 10.
The live project, Jyotsna Carnatic Jazz Trio, has in fact branched out from the EP and will release more music as a trio on Tala Root Records in the coming months alongside touring.
Trained in both South Indian classical music and Western classical violin, Jyotsna is known for a distinctive ‘elasticity’ that moves fluently between raga tradition, contemporary improvisation, and cross-cultural collaboration. Over the course of her career, Jyotsna has collaborated with leading figures across Carnatic, jazz, and Western classical traditions.
For Femme Music co-founders Sanoli Chowdhary and Vinod Gadher, Jyotsna represents the kind of artist Tala Root Records was created to support.
“It’s important that Femme Music reflects the full spectrum of women artists, not only emerging voices, but also musicians with decades of experience,” says Gadher. “Jyotsna, whom I’ve known and worked with internationally for many years, brings incredible depth and a global perspective. Tala Root Records felt like a natural home for her jazz work,” he adds.
A multifaceted artist, trained Carnatic violinist, educator, curator, and pathologist, Jyotsna has been a mainstay of Europe’s global music circuit. Now based in Bangalore, she is looking to deepen her connection with audiences in India through this new chapter with Tala Root Records.
On Bangalore Dreams, Jyotsna’s sonorous violin captures the spirit of the city through evocative ragas shaped by a strong jazz sensibility. It’s an EP where east meets west, ornamentation meets groove and India meets jazz.
“Bangalore Dreams is very personal to me, it reflects the sounds, colours and emotions of the city I call home,” says Jyotsna. “Through this project, I wanted to bring together my grounding in Carnatic music with the freedom of jazz improvisation, creating something that feels both rooted and open. It’s a free form of improvisation, where I’ve explored an Indian contemporary style within a jazz framework,” she explains the idea behind the EP.
Her expressive, warm-toned violin is joined by longtime collaborator Shadrach Solomon on keys, alongside virtuoso percussionist N. Amruth on mridangam and khanjira. Additional textures of bass, synth, and drums expand the sonic palette across the EP’s five tracks, offering a compelling glimpse into Jyotsna’s musical world.
Bangalore Dreams is now available on all streaming platforms. Jyotsna Carnatic Jazz Trio will also be performing shows to promote the EP through the summer like in Bangalore on May 2 at The Humming Tree.
