Thirty floors above the hum of Andheri West, where the city begins to soften and the skyline feels almost within reach, Alta Stella makes a quietly striking entrance. This rooftop constellation-inspired restro-bar is not built around the predictable rhythm of nightlife. It doesn’t rush you into the evening, nor does it rely on spectacle. Instead, it invites you to pause and then slowly, beautifully, unfold.
Translating to “closest to the star,” Alta Stella is shaped by a philosophy that goes beyond altitude. Conceived as an emotional journey rather than merely a rooftop destination, the space evolves organically with the night. Afternoons are bathed in natural light, lending themselves to unhurried lunches and easy conversations. There is a sense of stillness in the air that is reflective yet meditative. As dusk deepens, the mood shifts gently. Lighting grows warmer, music subtly intensifies, and the energy builds without ever feeling abrupt. The transition feels intuitive, like watching the sky change colour in real time.
Design plays a defining role in this transformation. Expansive yet intimate, the 12,000 sq. ft. space accommodates up to 250 guests while maintaining a sense of warmth and fluidity. Sculpted lighting, layered textures, and celestial motifs create an atmosphere that feels suspended between the city and the cosmos. Constellation-inspired art details weave through the interiors, while the ceiling quietly mirrors the universe above, reinforcing the theme of elevation and connection.
The most captivating element is the mirrored rooftop surface. As night falls, the sky reflects back into space, creating the illusion of stars shimmering not just overhead but around you. The boundary between rooftop and universe dissolves, making the experience immersive and poetic, a literal interpretation of being “closest to the star.”
The brand’s association with Sanjay Dutt feels rooted in shared meaning rather than mere presence. Alta Stella’s philosophy of resilience and elevation through experience mirrors his own journey. Reflecting on the space, he shares, “Being a celebrity comes with a lot of noise and chaos around you, so I’ve learned to appreciate spaces that feel calm and real. Alta Stella has that feeling. You’re up close to the sky, you see the stars above, and somehow everything slows down – aur phir bas dil karta hai thoda aur ruk jaayein. There’s a quiet strength here, and that’s what makes the place special for me.”
At its heart, Alta Stella is the vision of founder Abhimanyu Jakhar, who reflects:
“Alta Stella was born from a very personal belief that when you place yourself under the stars, you naturally begin to look inward. The idea of being ‘closest to the star’ isn’t about height or grandeur for us; it’s about creating a space where people feel aligned with themselves. We wanted to design an experience guided by the universe ,through constellations, light, and atmosphere ,where the sky becomes part of the journey. The space is meant to move with you, slowly and intuitively, allowing moments of reflection before the energy builds. Every night feels different, because every mood and every person brings something new. Alta Stella isn’t about spectacle; it’s about presence, and the quiet connection you feel when you look up and feel exactly where you’re meant to be.”
In the kitchen, Chef Manoranjan crafts a menu that blends global influences with Indian sensibilities, striking a balance between nostalgia and refinement. “The food feels familiar at first bite, and then slowly surprises you,” he says — an ethos that reflects the spirit of the menu. The dishes are designed to reveal layers of thoughtful reinterpretation, where comfort meets creativity.
Designed to transition seamlessly with the mood of the space, the food moves from relaxed and shareable by day to indulgent and expressive as evening sets in. Signature highlights include Beetroot & Whipped Feta Croquettes, crisp croquettes with earthy beetroot balanced by creamy whipped feta; Tangra Chicken Pops, bite-sized fried chicken tossed in bold Kolkata Tangra-style flavours; and Podi Butter Prawns, succulent prawns coated in aromatic South Indian podi and butter. Guests can also savour Chicken Thecha Kulcha, where fiery Maharashtrian thecha-spiced chicken is tucked into a soft kulcha, alongside Chicken Parmesan Milanese, a golden crumbed chicken cutlet layered with parmesan and rich tomato notes. For dessert, the Chenna Pod Cheesecake offers a decadent finish, inspired by the caramelised sweetness of Odisha’s traditional chenna poda.
Behind the bar, Mixologist Sidharth draws inspiration from celestial mythology and the zodiac, curating twelve signature cocktails that reflect personality and mood. Each drink is imagined as a story, expressive, intuitive, and emotionally resonant before the first sip. Standouts include Enki (Aquarius), a layered, fluid cocktail inspired by wisdom and water; Jasper (Aries), bold and fiery with smoked whiskey and ginger; Chimera (Leo), intense and commanding with spiced warmth; Themis (Libra), a beautifully balanced interplay of smoke and fruit; and Ebisu (Pisces), a softer, flowing creation that mirrors fate and fluidity. Together, the menu invites guests to choose not just a flavour, but a feeling, a drink that aligns with who they are in that moment.
As Mumbai’s hospitality landscape continues to evolve, Alta Stella rises quite literally, as a destination that feels both grounding and elevated. It’s a space for quiet reflection before celebration, for lingering conversations that stretch longer than planned, and for nights that don’t follow a script.
Because here, under mirrored skies and shifting constellations, the evening doesn’t just begin. It unfolds.
