February 2026 – Marking a significant new chapter in his musical journey, Arijit Singh releases his first independent single after stepping away from playback singing, joining forces with longtime friend, legendary composer and singer Shekhar Ravjiani for the evocative new track ‘Raina.’
Rooted in romance and poetic expression, ‘Raina’ draws inspiration from the idea of likening one’s beloved to the night – vast, mesmerizing and quietly powerful. “In the case of Raina, the thought of comparing one’s love to the night seemed like such a beautiful way to express the feeling. Sometimes all it takes is a beautiful melody coupled with deeply moving lines to bring life to the emotions behind a song idea,” shares Shekhar. The title, another word for “night” in Hindi, felt like the perfect embodiment of this sentiment – a tribute to a love that is as captivating and
expansive as the night sky itself.
‘Raina’ marks the second independent collaboration between Shekhar Ravjiani and Arijit Singh under Shekhar’s independent label, Garuudaa Musiic, following the widely loved ‘Kasam Se.’
“When I composed ‘Raina’ I knew that the world needed to hear the song in my friend Arijit’s voice. Arijit is himself a very ardent advocate and supporter of
independent music and after the success of ‘Kasam Se’ we both felt ready to put out another track from both of us,” he says. Penned by Priya Saraiya, the lyrics further deepen the song’s emotional core.
For Shekhar, who has composed over 650 songs across 65+ films in a 25-year career, independent music represents his most unfiltered artistic expression. “The happiness that comes from being able to express purely and without holding back, is what you hear when you listen to ‘Raina;. It is a piece of my heart, just like all my
independent songs. Filled with love and unbridled passion for music.”
A standout line from the track – “Subah ho jaaye phir bhi / Na kehti woh jo hai kehna” – beautifully captures late-night conversations that linger till dawn, where much is spoken and much remains unsaid.
Sonically, ‘Raina’ unfolds as a contemporary soft rock composition helmed and arranged by Shekhar, driven by electric guitars and bass-led rhythms, blending lyrical romance with a modern sonic edge. Immersive and intimate, the track
captures love in its quiet intensity – calm, expansive and deeply moving.
With ‘Raina,’ Shekhar Ravjiani continues to shape his independent musical legacy while introducing Arijit Singh’s first release in this new artistic chapter, signaling a defining moment – one shaped by friendship, creative freedom and a shared love for honest music.
