Description:
Currently touring across India, Lenscape Kerala—the travelling photography exhibition continues its national journey in Mumbai, where it will be presented at Jehangir Art Gallery from 12th to 14th February 2026.
Kerala is more than a destination; it is a living mosaic of landscape, culture, memory, and light. Lenscape Kerala is featuring 100 curated photographs shot by 10 leading travel lensmen and media photographers from across India. Each of them travelled through Kerala, covering themes such as heritage and architecture, rural life, backwaters, festivals, coastal life, wildlife, monsoon, traditional sports, spirituality, and cuisine – offering audiences a layered and immersive portrait of the region
The exhibition has been designed and curated by art historian, author and eminent art curator Ms. Uma Nair.
It travels to ten Indian cities—New Delhi,Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata—bringing Kerala’s cultural fabric and scenic delights, to new audiences and media ecosystems.
Curator Uma Nair who was born in Kerala in 1955 says:
” When 10 photographers come together to capture vistas and vignettes of the state of Kerala over 10 days we see images that range between sylvan sunsets, sunrises and secular principles of a quiet grounded belonging. From internationally award winning Aishwarya Sridhar to renown Kounteya Sinha and panoramist Amit Pasricha to Manoj Arora of heritage and Hampi fame each series is about an awakening of love for nature, for land and the beauty of faith and multiple lifestyles and lineages.”
From the pages of antiquity in architectural symbolism to the meandering backwaters of Kuttanad, to the moody Western Ghats in the north of Kerala each photographer spent 5 days packed with a hectic schedule to capture what they felt was imperative and fascinating. Filtered light, gentle silhouettes, sculptonic identities and the gorgeous gravitas of Theyyam all come together to celebrate mythos and the accents of an earthy vocabulary of man and nature in contemporary character.
Here amongst colour tones as well as black and white regalia the reality of ageing beautifully within Kerala’s coastal humidity,we sense street scenes and everyday idioms that emphasise sight lines as well as a preservation of architectural openness while encouraging pause in a world that runs races within races.
The exhibition flags off on 20th January, 2026 in New Delhi and closes on 31st March, 2026 in Surat. Alongside the showcase, curator-led walks and interactions with the photographers will nurture dialogue around image-making, ecology, heritage, and community—reminding us that travel and tourism is most meaningful when it is mindful.
An initiative by the Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala, Lenscape Kerala continues to travel across Indian cities, engaging audiences through photography-led storytelling. At its heart, the project is a public outreach campaign with a simple purpose: to turn admiration into itineraries. By translating Kerala’s richness into compelling images, the project aims to spark travel intent, deepen cultural curiosity, and strengthen local livelihoods tied to tourism. The resulting body of work— 100 photographs drawn from field journeys across the state—forms a curated collection that anchors a travelling exhibition circuit and a suite of promotional assets for Kerala Tourism. Across each city, the exhibition is designed as an open invitation: a space for discovery, conversation, and connection, where audiences meet Kerala’s stories through scale, sequence, and careful curation.
