Thibaut Courtois proved to be the real hero of the match, by stopping goals in the penalty shoot out. His efforts made the club lift the Spanish Super Cup at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Beating city rivals Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid ended the game with ten men after Federico Valverde was sent off in extra time for fouling. The dramatic finale was at odds but the team came together and picked up their eleventh Spanish Super Cup.
