Written by JRR Tolkien, the story has been told to the audience in ‘The Lord of The Rings’ film trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson. As per the Amazon Studio head, Jennifer Salke, the studio is not going to remake the series that has already been out and was set in the third age of middle earth. The original storylines will come from the time period preceding ‘The Fellowship of the Rings’, set in the second age. Earlier this year the production house has shared an interactive map showing the parts of middle earth that will be depicted in the show.

Amazon Studios bought the rights for the series back in 2017 for $ 250 million. The deal requires the production house to commit five seasons as well as beginning the production within two years following the purchase of the rights. In cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, the publisher of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ books, and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros, Amazon hopes to have ‘The Lord of the Rings’ prequel series on air in 2021.
