Tamil film director/actor J Mahendran, passed away at the age of 79 at his abode in Chennai early morning on Tuesday, April 2. The veteran filmmaker had been on a ventilator since last week after a dialysis session at Chennai’s Apollo hospital. However, he was reportedly discharged on Monday night. This morning, the director’s son John Mahendran announced the sad news on social media of the death of the finest director J Mahendran. He tweeted, “Director Mahendran Passed Away This Morning.”

Mahendran started his career as a writer in the 60s, directed 12 films including the evergreen films like ‘Uthiri Pookal’ and ‘Mullum Malarum’. He is also respected for shaping the career of the famous Superstar Rajinikanth by giving him outstanding roles like ‘Johnny’ and ‘Mullum Malarum’.
The cremation of the director is scheduled to be held at 5:00 PM.
