Some places are made for a quick coffee, some for long lunches, and some for evenings that somehow stretch a little longer than planned. Tora is designed to be all three. A contemporary neighbourhood destination in Versova, Tora brings together inventive food, creative beverages, music, design and easy-going hospitality in a space that is meant to be lived in, not simply visited. From daytime catch-ups to date nights and dinners with friends, Tora is built around the idea of having a place in the neighbourhood that always feels like a good idea.
Founded by Gaurav Sharma and Sangeeta Kapure, Tora reflects their vision of creating a destination that extends beyond the traditional restaurant experience. From its food and beverage programme to its interiors, hospitality and evolving atmosphere, every element has been designed to give the 40-seater destination a distinct personality while retaining a sense of warmth and familiarity. The name Tora reflects this bold and distinctive character, while its larger philosophy is rooted in the belief that dining encompasses much more than what is served on the plate.
“Tora is our vision of a contemporary neighbourhood destination where great food, creative beverages and an inviting atmosphere come together,” say founders Gaurav Sharma and Sangeeta Kapure. “We wanted to create a space that feels equally natural for a casual afternoon, an intimate dinner or an evening spent with friends, while building an identity that guests can connect with and return to.”
At the heart of Tora is a menu that draws from multiple culinary traditions rather than being defined by a single cuisine. Led by Chef Gaurav Gidwani, the culinary programme focuses on contemporary interpretations of familiar flavours, balancing creativity and presentation with seasonality and recognisable ingredients. Contrasting textures, temperatures, acidity, richness and spice come together across the menu, creating dishes that offer a familiar starting point while taking an unexpected turn.
The menu features signatures such as Crispy Devil Eggs, a playful contemporary interpretation of a familiar classic; Burrata Chaat Salad, which brings creamy burrata together with the layered flavours of Indian chaat; and Puffed Rice Arancini, combining the crisp character of puffed rice with the indulgence of arancini. The Sweet Potato & Kaffir Lime Galouti presents a contemporary vegetarian take on the galouti, while Nihari En Croute reimagines the deeply flavoured Indian classic in a refined pastry format.
Complementing the food is a beverage programme helmed by Director of Mixology Shobith Salian, spanning cocktails, coffee, matcha-based creations and playful signature beverages. Highlights include Tiramisu Coffee, a layered coffee inspired by the classic dessert; Kunafa Chocolate, a decadent chocolate creation inspired by the Middle Eastern sweet; Pistachio Latte; Cotton Candy White Chocolate Matcha; and the refreshing Passionfruit Coconut Cloud. Together, the food and beverage menus bring familiar inspirations into a fresh, contemporary setting, with plenty to discover across the day.
Step inside Tora and the mood is immediately intimate, warm and inviting. The contemporary interiors bring together thoughtful lighting, layered textures and distinctive details, creating a space that feels polished without being formal. Designed to complement the energy of the restaurant, the setting moves effortlessly from easy daytime conversations to more animated evenings, making Tora feel as much like a neighbourhood hangout as a dining destination.
Behind the hospitality and business direction is Managing Partner Arka Mukherjee, who leads the project’s hospitality, sales, business development and brand-building efforts. Together with the founders and the culinary and beverage teams, he is helping shape Tora’s commercial direction while keeping the guest experience at the centre of the brand.
For Tora, Versova is just the beginning. The vision is to build a distinctive hospitality brand that brings together good food, creative beverages, thoughtful spaces and a strong sense of neighbourhood. As it grows, Tora hopes to retain the warmth and individuality that define its first home.
