Mumbai, India, 26 June 2026: Collector’s Choice, a modern Indian art auction by AstaGuru held on 22-23 June 2026, concluded with exceptional results, including the performance of works by 10 modern Indian artists that achieved new auction records, reflecting the continued depth of collector interest across diverse segments of the Indian art market. The record-setting artists include B Prabha, C D Mistry, Laxman Shrestha, Anupam Sud, Dhanraj Bhagat, K G Subramanyan, Niren Sengupta, Sarbari Roy Chowdhury, Senaka Senanayake, and Vidya Bhushan.
Leading the record-breaking performances were B Prabha’s Untitled (Potter Women), C D Mistry’s Beyond Control, an Untitled work by Laxman Shrestha, Anupam Sud’s A Veil of Vice and Virtue, Dhanraj Bhagat’s Standing Figure, K G Subramanyan’s Figures with Mystical Birds (Diptych), Niren Sengupta’s Celebration (Diptych), Sarbari Roy Chowdhury’s Standing Woman (Ed. 2/9), Senaka Senanayake’s Sisters of the Sun, and Vidya Bhushan’s Still Life with Blue Drape, each of which established a new auction benchmark. These achievements not only marked a defining moment for the artists represented but also highlighted the strength and evolving nature of the Indian art market, making them a cornerstone of Collector’s Choice’s remarkable success.
The auction also marked an important milestone for AstaGuru, as it was the first sale to feature works sourced through the company’s London office. These works performed strongly, with several achieving results above their pre-sale estimates, reflecting collector confidence in the caliber and provenance of works presented through AstaGuru’s London office.
Bringing together an exceptional selection of paintings, sculptures, and works on paper by some of the country’s most celebrated artists, the auction highlighted the enduring appeal of works distinguished by artistic excellence of paintings, sculptures, and works on paper by renowned artists including Raja Ravi Varma, J Swaminathan, M F Husain, K H Ara, F N Souza, Ram Kumar, Himmat Shah, Ganesh Pyne and many others.

Among the most sought-after works was Ganesh Pyne’s The Conversation, Lot 9, a significant 1977 painting that exemplifies the artist’s unique visual language of poetic ambiguity, psychological depth, and introspection.
Works by J Swaminathan generated notable enthusiasm, particularly Untitled (Bird, Tree & Mountain), Lot 52, a composition emblematic of the artist’s enduring exploration of symbolism and nature.
Important works by F N Souza, including Untitled, Lot 25, and Dancers, Lot 44, performed strongly, reflecting the sustained demand for works by one of India’s foremost modernists.
